- Summary:
- David Jenkins describes his first calling as happening while attending an evangelical Bible class for boys in the 1930s. "I came to believe that God was interested in everybody; that this was indicated in Jesus, and this meant me". His autobiography explores in a searching and insightful way the life and career that have followed from this early realization.
- Jenkins describes his career since becoming Bishop of Durham in 1984 as "doing what seemed to me to be the obvious things and becoming a public nuisance". He reflects on the shortcomings of politics and issues his challenge to Church and Society in the new century.
