Summary:
Papers from a May 2001 workshop look at radionuclide-retention processes and their consideration and representation in performance assessments. Current approaches to characterization and modeling retention processes, and suggestions for future improvements, are discussed. In addition to material presented during the workshop, there is a technical synthesis reflecting the discussion that took place, as well as conclusions and recommendations made during the working group sessions. Themes are individual retention processes, geologic and field evidence for retention processes and their representation in models, and consideration and representation of retention processes in performance assessments and justification of treatment.
