Summary:
The Architectural Detail gives an overview of architectural detailing from a galaxy of prominent contemporary Dutch architectural firms. Exploring the relationship between detail and wider context, what is underlined here is not the purely functional aspect of detail (such as wind- or water-proofing), but its potential as the designer's conceptual signature--detail in which the larger intent can be read. This thesis is illustrated through texts, drawings and photographs. Author and architectural scholar Ed Melet devotes chapters to the 'detail philosophy' of such architectural stars as OMA/Rem Koolhaas, Koen van Velsen, Neutelings Riedijk, MVRDV, Ben van Berkel (UN Studio), Benthem Crouwel and CEPEZED.
Notes:
