Summary:
Synthesizing the current knowledge of regional-global link-ages in four regions, this book demonstrates that the study of environmental change on a regional scale can enhance the understanding of changes on the global-scale. For example, the atmospheric circulation over Southern Africa links regional nutrient and pollutant sources to distant sinks affecting both regional and global ecosystem functioning. It explains how extended human modification of land cover in East Asia has impacted the Asian monsoon system. Biogenic and anthropogenic emissions over South Asia are also shown to be implicated in changes in global ozone and oceanic biogeochemical balances.
