Wawn, Yearbook of English studies, 2 (1972) 21-40, and BJRL, 56 (1973) 174-92, argues that the work was originally a Lollard tract written in the early 15th century, subsequently revised and gaining the addition of the prologue and lines 205-28 in the 16th century"--Halkett & Laing (3rd ed.).
