Summary:
The Cerrados of Brazil is the first volume in English covering a tropical ecosystem in which most of the contributors are scientists and researchers from the region. It provides an in-depth summary of current understanding of the cerrados for researchers versed in the field (including a synthesis of much material only available in Portuguese), as well as an introduction to cerrado biology for the uninitiated international community. Among the topics covered are soil and land use patterns, paleoecology, the role of fire, diversity among plant and animal populations, insect -- plant interactions, and long- and short-term conservation strategies.
