Summary:
Genomes 2 has been completely rewritten to take into account the changing demands of lecturers and their students: Part 1 has been completely reorganized and rewritten to provide an introduction to the subject for those studying molecular biology for the first time. Furthermore, there have been major pedagogical improvements to this edition: each chapter starts with a learning outcomes section which describes what the reader will learn and concludes with problems sets to aid understanding and also to help direct supplementary tutorial work.
The first edition of GENOMES was widely praised as the most up-to-date molecular biology book available. To continue this theme, Terry Brown has incorporated the huge changes in research over the last three years. As a consequence, the book starts by focusing on the draft human genome sequence and then leads into a survey of the physical and genetic organization of genomes in general. Our current understanding of the transcriptome and proteome is reviewed and an entirely new chapter on cloning techniques has been added.
