Summary:
Using archival and unpublished materials, this film provides background to the ethnic conflicts raging in the former Yugoslavia as it examines the conflict's roots from the beginning of the twentieth century with the creation of Yugoslavia, the second World War, and the arrival of Tito. The program goes on to show how, from the early 1980's, stresses arose with the rise of nationalism and local extreminists in the republics, leading to "civil" war and the destruction of a state.
