- Summary:
- Brigham Young's Homes provides a comprehensive history of the many houses and other structures built, owned, or resided in by Brigham Young, leader of the Mormon pioneers, first territorial governor of Utah, and second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Herein historians describe Young's residences as a child and young man, the buildings he helped construct as a youthful carpenter, his living quarters as a missionary and during the Mormon migrations, and his multiple houses and farms in Salt Lake City and other Utah towns -- several now preserved as historic landmarks. They examine not only the buildings themselves but life within them, especially the family life of Young's plural wives and their children. The emphasis is on Young's residences as homes, not just structures. Numerous photos, drawings, and maps offer a visual history to complement the text.
