Potter photograph of Whitman printed on the recto, and photograph of Whitman in his seventieth year (followed by a protective tissue) printed on the verso, are inserted before the 'Note at Beginning,' after the first p. 296, and before the November Boughs title page; a single leaf with the Samuel Hollyer engraving of Whitman printed on the verso is inserted after the first p. 28."--Myerson.

- "Limited to 600 numbered copies, signed by Whitman on the Leaves of Grass title page ... The statement of limitation information is on the back of the 'Note at Beginning' page ... [or] on the copyright page ... [or] not present ... copies sent out before 14 February 1889 were unnumbered; the statement of limitation on other copies was written by Horace Traubel"--Myerson.
- Some copies have "Edition 600 copies" as well as an assigned copy no. in Horace Traubel's hand. All distributed before Feb. 14, 1889 were unnumbered. Cf. Meyerson.

[that is, Carolyn Wells]") in pencil laid in.
