Summary:
In a career that has taken him to professorships at the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Fordham University, the University of Notre Dame, and now the University of Virginia, where he holds the William R. Kenan Jr. Chair in the History of Christianity, Robert Wilken's contribution to the study of early Christianity is both substantial and multifarious. His pioneering work in the social and intellectual history of the early church is well known, and his many books, such as The Christians as the Romans Saw Them, are widely acclaimed.
In Dominico Eloquio -- In Lordly Eloquence honors the scholarly life of Robert Wilken. This volume gathers fresh research on important themes in the study of the Christian writers of the patristic period by a group of Wilken's colleagues and former students. Sharing Wilken's passion to uncover the riches of early Christian biblical interpretation, these contributors investigate the ways that the church fathers engaged the Bible theologically, devotionally, liturgically, ethically, and pastorally.
Learned, relevant, and wide-ranging, the wealth of insight set forth here not only is a fitting tribute to Wilken's work and continuing influence but also represents the state of the art in patristics scholarship.
