- Summary:
- This unique anthology of contemporary artists who work in the 'expanded field of sculpture' creates the first volume in the new series of transcript publications, which has evolved from the successful journal of contemporary visual culture.
- The concentration on the voice of the artist provides insights into individual ways of making art link with current cultural issues. Rather than comprehensively surveying the field of contemporary sculpture, ten internationally established artists for whom dealing with volume, mass and space, and relating to the human body provides a focal point or a point of departure, have been brought together in this volume. Creative concepts and modes of visual production are juxtaposed in a way that brings to the fore stimulating correspondences and provocative tensions between the artists and their aesthetic and philosophical positions. The generous interview format and the accompanying selection of visual material also allow for an illuminating documentation of the development of the individual artist, which is supported by a selected bibliography.
