Summary:
Krasner discusses his own personal and musical background and training; his commissioning of the Berg violin concerto and his support for new music; meeting his wife who was performing Berg's Lyric Suite; the first performance of the Berg concerto with Scherchen conducting; the first performance in North America with Koussevitzky and the second with Stokowski. Krasner also premiered the Schoenberg concerto with Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra and describes the difficulty of hearing cues when Stokowski rearranged the orchestra seating. He also discusses meeting Stokowski again many years later when Stokowski guest conducted the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra; Stokowski's ability to work with less experienced musicians; as well as his support for women in the orchestra. Krasner also mentions Stock, Mitropoulos, Rodzinski, Webern, Sanroma, and Toscanini.
