Summary:
Reis discusses Stokowski's personality, his interest in the details of a work; and his help with the League of Composers. She describes her first meeting with Stokowski, working with him on Les Noces and Werner Josten performing Monteverdi's Il Combattimento on the same program. She describes rehearsals for this and also for Sacre du Printemps, mentioning Martha Graham, Nicholas Roerich, Leonide Massine, and Arthur Judson.
She also describes details of the preparation for Oedipus Rex including stage work by Robert Edmond Jones and Remo Bufano; Stravinsky attending a performance of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk; and performing Prokofiev's Pas d'acier with Lee Simonson working on sets; and Stokowski performing Pierrot Lunaire at Town Hall, with theatrics.
Daniel's research notes include photocopies of 7 tiems of correspondence between Reis and Stokowski, 1939-1945, folder 339.
