- Mayes describes auditioning for Stokowski in 1936; Eugene Ormandy's early years with the Philadelphia Orchestra; he mentions Heifetz, Rostropovich, Monteux, Toscanini, and has an extended discussion of Koussevitzky. He discusses recording engineering and Charles O'Connell of RCA Victor; traveling with Stokowski's All-American Youth Orchestra; Stokowski's repertoire with the Philadelphia Orchestra; Stokowski's podium; conductor William Smith and composer Wallingford Riegger.
