Summary:
Heuwell Tircuit discusses performing under Stokowski with the Houston Symphony Orchestra, Stokowski's preparation, orchestrations, rehearsals, and authority; his introduction of major works to the American repertoire, particularly Mahler's 8th symphony and Shostakovich's 10th symphony; his support for American composers, including Hovhaness; and Stokowski's transcriptions of Bach. Tircuit also mentions Fritz Reiner, George Szell, Serge Koussevitzky, and Emil Cooper and the Baton Rouge Orchestra.
