Summary:
Comprises culinary recipes for cakes, puddings, custards, jellies, cheeses, soups, fish, meats, and sauces for meats; ginger wine and cowslip wine. Also includes knitting pattern instructions (3 leaves). There are a few medicinal remedies written from the reverse of the volume along with several pages of accounts (in shillings and dollars). Also includes a poem "A Paradise Pudding" and a list of 31 questions for a prospective bride.
Notes:
Written in more than one hand; the earliest recipes may have been written in England, later recipes (some in the same hand) are from the northeastern United States and include Boston Fruit Cake, Federal Cake, and Election Cake.
One page of accounts in pencil is dated 1860, no other dates or attribution in manuscript.
No pagination, 24 leaves blank in the middle.
Binding: Contemporary half leather.
