- Summary:
- In 1938, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) engaged New Mexican artists to create the Portfolio of Spanish Colonial Design in New Mexico. The Portfolio contained fifty hand-colored woodcuts and a booklet written by E Boyd. When the official, finished portfolios were shipped to Washington, D.C., they were condemned and many were destroyed. A few complete Portfolios, however, survived and are in libraries today. This may be the first time that many have had a chance to see this monumental work. This reprint of the original Portfolio marks the 75th anniversary of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society. Along with the original booklet and fifty prints there is additional information on the project that has recently surfaced. A tool for artists and researchers, this is a piece of New Mexico's artistic history that can now be enjoyed by everyone.
