First edition of 9 comedies; the Lysistrata and the Thesmophoriazusae were not printed until 1515.

Includes a Greek epigram by Scipione Carteromaco on leaf pi2v.

Super-Chancery folio. Leaf pi2r: 40 lines; area of text: 227 x 155 mm. Woodcut initials and head-pieces, some initial spaces with guide-letters. Some headlines. With signatures and catchwords, without foliation. Register at end.

Leaf size: 306 x 196 mm.
Given to the University of Pennsylvania by Dr. William Pepper in 1922.
Binding: full black morocco with gold-tooling and gold arabesques on panels; five raised bands and five panels with gold floral designs on spine; author's name, title and imprint in two panels; gold stamped turn-ins; marbled endpapers; all edges gilt.
Former ownership inscription, or price, excised from upper corner on front free endpaper. Leaf [nu]1 mended at lower corner with some loss of text. Cover detached from spine.
