- Reproduction of 730 juan of a ms. work originally compiled in 1408 in 22, 877 juan by Xie Jin and others under order of Ming Chengzu. The reproduction was made chiefly from extant original mss. or facsimiles of the 1567 copy; the final group of 29 juan were reproduced from free copies.

- 原書正本永樂6年[1408]告成, 共22,877卷, 外加凡例和目錄60卷, 裝成11,095册, 副本 ... 隆慶元年[1567]完成, 明亡之際 ... 正本可能卽毀于此時, 副本 ... 光緖26年[1900] ... 遭受浩刼 ... 中華人民共和國成立以來, 永樂大典原本已被收集到215册 ... 具藏北京圖書館, 中華書局現據北京圖書館所藏原本和複製本及最近向國內外公私各方借印者16卷, 合共730卷, 影印出版, 如此卷數僅及原書全部百分之三強, 但據不完全統計, 原書現存于世者約近800卷.
