- Summary:
- Modigliani, (1884 - 1920) best known for his portraits of women and his nudes: elongated necks, almond shaped eyes, and serene facial expressions. Few artists created works of such classical beauty as he did. His nudes are painted with a timeless consideration for balance and composition and a superb handling of color.
- Modigliani spent most of his life amongst the avant-garde or Montparnasse group in Paris. He was a member of the Bohemian circle that included artists such as Picasso, Brancusi, Juan Gris, Utrillo and many writers. He died in Paris in 1920 at the age of 36.
