- Biography/History:
- The estate (house and gardens) of Craig Biddle (1823-1910) was built ca. 1902 in Wayne, Radnor Township, Pennsylvania by the prominent Boston architectural firm of Peabody & Stearns in collaboration with Olmsted Brothers, landscape architects. The property was purchased ca. 1910 by Archibald Barklie who named the estate "Inverness House". Several additions to the house and alterations to the landscape were executed during Barklie's ownership of the property, including a garden fountain by Ellen Biddle Shipman, a prominent landscape architect and relative of Craig Biddle. Published sources indicate that Shipman had designed part of the original landscape. The house was purchased in the mid-20th century by the Neuman Family through which the drawings came into the Archives collection. The house is demolished.

- The collection comprises one original architectural drawing and 24 prints for the Craig Biddle Residence. The collection contains drawings for the original design of the house by Peabody and Stearns and for the landscape design by Olmsted Brothers. The collection also contains drawings for additions to the residence and landscape by Francis A. Gugert, architect, Ellen Biddle Shipman, landscape architect, and Robert B. Cridland, landscape architect, executed for Archibald Barklie between 1913 and 1930. The only original drawing is by Gugert, dated 1913. The collection contains no visual materials documenting Shipman's participation in the original (1901-1902) landscape design.
