Eighteen contributions, presented by Maddy (geography, U. of Newcastle, UK), Macklin (geography, U. of Wales, UK), and Woodward (geography, U. of Leeds, UK), which were first presented at the third meeting of the Fluvial Archives Group held in Cheltenham, UK during September 1998, attempt to look at some specific issues of the relationships between river behavior and environmental change. The papers look at the archaeological and geological evidence for the way these processes have occurred in the past and reflect on how future processes can be modeled.
