- Summary:
- This is a book offered in tribute to Jeffrey Hopkins by colleagues and former students. Jeffrey Hopkins has, in his sixty years, made profound and diverse contributions to the understanding of Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism in the West. In his collaborations with the Dalai Lama, such as Kindness, Clarity, and Insight, and in books like Tibetan Arts of Love and Emptiness Yoga, Hopkins has reached out to the general reader, making the wisdom of Tibet accessible to everyone. Yet there is never anything superficial about his work; his recent Emptiness in the Mid-Only School of Buddhism is a magisterial display of scholarly work.
- Jeffrey Hopkins is Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia, where he has taught Tibetan Studies and Tibetan language since 1973. There he served as Director of the Center for South Asian Studies for twelve years and founded a program in Buddhist Studies. From 1979 to 1989 he served as His Holiness the Dalai Lama's chief interpreter into English. He is currently compiling a Tibetan-Sanskrit-English dictionary.
- This volume testifies to the scope of his legacy, and is offered in appreciation of the inspiring work of Jeffrey Hopkins as a teacher and scholar.
