Summary:
Architect Bob van Reeth never rebelled against the architectural status quo, but instead went looking for places where freedom and the inevitability of architecture could still be found. He discovered the primary power of architecture in the brickyards of his native region, on the banks of the River Scheldt in Belgium. He was surprised and inspired by their imagination, by the sometimes bizarre ''outbuildings'' proliferating behind the comforting blocks of houses, as well as by the notion of ''all power to the imagination'' prevalent in the student revolts of 1968. It is van Reeth's mission to return this kind of true freedom to the spaces in which we live and act--but he supports this spontaneity with a skill and precision in his structures that places him at the forefront of his generation of designers.
