The whole would be a philosophical allegory of the evolution of man's conception of Deity. I decided to call it the 'Theomachia,' a word borrowed from the twentieth book of the Iliad, meaning 'The Battle of the Gods'; The Gods who battle are, of course, man's ideas and ideals of Deity."
