- Summary:
- According to legend, over a thousand years ago a beautiful young wife saved herself from execution by a murderous sultan by telling him, in the course of 1001 nights, stories which intrigued him enough to keep her alive for the outcome. The exotic tales she wove are set in India, Persia, Egypt, Turkey and China and came to be known as The Arabian Nights or A Thousand and One Nights. Using location clips and some of the wealth of illustrations inspired by the tales, the episode traces the development of The Arabian Nights from ancient myths to modern movies, and explore the stories' timeless themes and ageless truths with leading authors and historians.
