Many recipes are attributed to individuals with surnames Rundell, Cornfoot, Hulbert, Young, Corbett, Carter, Knowles, Biedermann, Webb, Swete, Smale, Beard, Hunt, Marmignon, Woolley, Dashwood, Wilmot, Gurney, Pringle, Acton, Luce, Paul, Methold, Smith, and to Mrs. Ormond of Wantage and Lady Gould, among others. Printed "Hints to Housekeepers," n.d., n.p. laid inside front cover.

- Written in two or more hands, the later hand crosses out and corrects the earlier in some instances. Some later items are tipped in over earlier recipes.
- Written in England, possibly in Oxfordshire, by Emma Tillotson (ownership inscription and date 1842 at beginning); dated 1858 on final leaf.
