Published anonymously. By Sir Richard Steele and/or Joseph Addison.
The author identifies himself as that of the "Pasquin of Rome" letters in the Tatler (i.e. no. 187), which was published 1709-1711 in 271 nos. About 188 of these were written by Steele, under the pseudonym Isaac Bickerstaff; about 42 by Addison; and about 34 by both in conjunction. Cf. CBEL, v. 2, col. 1101, 1112-1114; DNB, v. 1, p. 126.
