Summary:
Since the early 1980's, Guido Knopp, a journalist with ZDF TV in Germany, along with a team of researchers, has spoken to many eyewitnesses who were in the immediate circles of Hitler's associates. They questioned the friends and families of these men and looked at private documents that until now have been kept under lock and key.
Hitler's Henchmen presents a fresh and intimate view of the Third Reich. Knopp sheds new light on the early lives of men such as Goering, Hess, Eichmann, Ribbentrop, Manstein, and Rommel, and re-traces their relationships with Hitler and Nazism. The author stresses how Goebbels, Goring, and Himmler, all very different people, shared an awestruck dedication to Hitler and a deep hatred of the Jews. Spectacular finds from Russian and British as well as private collections of papers show of the power of the Third Reich and undermine many long-held misconceptions.
