- The illustrations include a headpiece on p. [3] signed "Anthony-Davis NY" (apparently a collaboration between A.V.S. Anthony and J.P. Davis), photographs and engravings. Only plates 15, 16, 19 and 22 are signed; engraved by H.W. Smith, S.A. Schoff, J. Cheney, and J.B. Forrest after S.W. Rowse, C.L. Elliott, and W.R. Miller.
