Summary:
This powerfully persuasive book argues that a false dilemma is being forced on the nations of the South. Must these countries integrate their economies via export led growth or face economic marginalization and stagnation? The idea runs counter to the actual evidence of economic history. Nor is it inevitable that state and market be in diametric opposition. What is more, the roots of current global economic instability lie not in the South, but in an enduring crisis of the productivity of capital in the G-7 countries.
