- Summary:
- Thomas Campbell's Declaration and Address, originally published in 1809, is widely known as a landmark in the history of American Christianity. Campbell's goal was to recreate Christianity through rigorous study of founding documents. Favoring a grassroots movement with few organizational mechanisms, he argued against trying to separate levels of belief as they related to opinions. These essays represent different perspectives and responses to the Declaration and Address's fundamental vision.
