Summary:
Endocrine Oncology provides a comprehensive overview of the issues and controversies surrounding the role of steroid- and peptide hormones, and their receptors, in the biology of neoplasms of endocrine target tissues such as breast, prostate, uterus, and ovary.
An extensive section on breast cancer contains chapters that describe the endocrinology of normal and neoplastic breast from the perspectives of tumor development, therapy and prevention. The next sections deal with ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, and prostate cancer. The last section is devoted to a presentation of what is known about the role of peptide growth factors, their receptors and binding proteins in endocrine neoplasia. Endocrine Oncology lays the groundwork for the understanding of biologically based therapies of endocrine cancers and will be useful to oncologists, endocrinologists, surgeons, and basic and clinical scientists studying these endocrine cancers.
