- Summary:
- The African prince Anniaba is the first black hero in French fiction. With his French queen, he was also half of the first mixed-race couple on record. Based on fact, Histoire de Louis Anniaba was first published in 1740 but has never been reprinted. Full of travel and adventure in Africa, on the high seas, in France, and on the Barbary Coast, the story also illustrates the freethinking stance of the anonymous author, unusual for the social and legal contexts of the time.
- Notes:
- Reprint of a novel published in 1740 in Paris, France by Aux Dépens de la Société.
- Includes bibliographical references (pages xxvii-xxviii).
