First work consists of the extant parts of the unfinished opera, organized into a work & orchestrated by Percy Young; 2nd work is a talk by Anthony Payne with musical examples, including extracts from Elgar's music to Binyon's play King Arthur, presenting Payne's construction of the 3rd symphony, which exists only as sketches.
Recorded June 21-23, 1995, Broadcasting House, Glasgow (1st work) & Mar. 1995, New Broadcasting House, Manchester (2nd work, except for the King Arthur extracts, which are taken from Chandos CHAN 6582).
