Summary:
Speed Bumps is aimed at those engaged in the process of learning about qualitative research. In it, two noted ethnographers (in conversation with fifteen graduate students) offer varying looks at what it means to conduct a piece of qualitative work. While there have been a number of "How to" books on qualitative research, there is no one volume which seeks to integrate political and ethical reflections upon this work with practical suggestions revolving around how to actually do it. Speed Bumps is a look at what lies beneath the surface as well as offering information regarding developing interview questions, conducting interviews and observations, coding and analyzing data, and writing up the results.
