Summary:
Begins the Land Reconstruction and Management series of monographs and thematic collections of review and research papers; it is supported by the World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (Europe) but will address a wider spectrum of land management issues. The collection of 14 studies here was conceived as a handbook and manifesto from a community of Greens working for land reclamation, who focus on current thinking about conserving land that has been reclaimed after surface coal mining. They argue that reclaiming is not a one-shot action, but a process that must continue until the land attains self-sustaining self-control. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
