Summary:
This book is a comprehensive analysis of the unrecognized role played and burden borne by rural women during the last four decades of South Korean economic development. It offers a new critical understanding of the crucial role played by rural women in the Korean economic "miracle." Presenting her "triple exploitation" model, Dong-Sook Shin Gills explains the linkages between rural women, national development, and the global economy. She concludes that, via triple exploitation, rural women held more than their "fair share" of the strain of rapid industrialization.
