In the global village that our world is becoming, interaction between persons of varying backgrounds and religions is practically inescapable. As people of different religions increase their interaction, the opportunities either to fall into religious bigotry or to overcome the same increase as well. How missions work within this context remains in question.

E. Luther Copeland, in A New Meeting of the Religions, demonstrates that one can affirm the Christian mission internationally and interculturally without diminishing either the importance of good interreligious relations or the recognition of the worth of the major religions.

The purpose of this book is to enable Christians to support missions to persons different from themselves, especially at the point of the religions, while retaining respect for these other religions. It agrees with those who believe that there is a new meeting of the religions; that there are fresh ways of contacting one another across religious lines.

A New Meeting of the Religions is unique in two ways. First, it criticizes the current terms used by Christian scholars in describing their views concerning how Christians should relate to those of other religions and offers new and more useful terminology. Second, it suggests the theological questions that are being raised by the new meeting of the religions and how they may be answered from the standpoint of the Christian faith.
