- Perez left his work incomplete at the word ulchahal, the remainder was prepared by Don Crescencio Carrillo down to xen, and from that word to the end by Dr. Berendt. Cf. Pilling, Bibl. of the languages of the North American Indians.
- "This monument of a life-long labor did not appear until some years after the author's death (March 6, 1859). The printing was begun in 1866, interupted in 1867 by the civil war, during which the manuscript "copy" came near destruction, and finally completed in 1867." Cf. Brinton.

- Brinton Collection copy has an ms. note (by Brinton?) on a leaf tipped on to the verso of t.p., in brown ink, with the heading "Note by D. Berendt in the Preface of his copy of Perez' dictionary, now in the Smithsonian Library" followed by a transcription of the note in Spanish.
