Summary:
Despite the fact that the web was born of the need for scientists to communicate, the publication of material with mathematical and scientific notation has been problematic in this medium. This book describes how LaTeX and other available tools can solve this problem, explaining techniques that allow beautifully-formatted technical text to be published on the web.
Written for those already familiar with LaTeX, the book shows how LaTeX can provide new opportunities for elegant scientific publication on the web. It presents such topics as PDF, tools for converting LaTeX to HTML, and methods for using LaTeX to create web fragments.
In addition, the book covers non-LaTeX solutions to mathematical formatting on the web, and describes converting LaTeX to such scripting tools as XML, SGML, and the new MathML. Using the techniques in this book, scientists and mathematicians will be able to publish their material on the web exactly as it should appear.
