Summary:
One of the weaknesses of the otherwise elegant string theories has been convincing anything in the real world to abide by them. Here 23 papers look at recent developments in establishing a link between experiment and the formal theoretical structure in order to select from the alternative versions of superstring theory. They include discussions of non-perturbative effects from orbifold constructions, supersymmetry breaking effects by analytic continuation into superspace, chiral gauge theories and D-branes, and new perspectives in string phenomenology from dualities. Some of the reproduced typescripts are double spaced. There is no index. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
