They Were Counted...., was repressed under the Communists and has only recently been republished to acclaim in his native country. This novel, the first part of Banffy's Transylvanian Trilogy, provides a wide-ranging portrait of his homeland in the early twentieth century as seen through the eves of two young aristocratic Transylvanian cousins.
