Notes:
Edited from a manuscript of the 18th cent., with binder's title: "Dicionario sapoteco del Balle," at one time, it is presumed, the property of the library of the Dominicans at Oaxaca, later presented to Porfirio Díaz, president of Mexico. The "Diccionario de la lengua zapoteca" known to have been compiled in the 17th cent. by Fray Cristóbal Agüero, a Dominican at Oaxaca, is lost, so that it is impossible to say whether there is any relation between the two works. cf. Advertencia and J. T. Medina, La imprenta en México, t. 2 (1907) p. 381.
