Summary:
Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany (1853-84), considered to have been the most intelligent and the most interesting of Queen Victoria's sons, was also the first royal haemophiliac. This first full-length biography draws on unpublished papers in the royal archives at Windsor to explore the impact of his illness from a new angle. The author also looks at his friendships with prominent figures of the time, including Charles Dodgson ("Lewis Carroll") and Oscar Wilde, and his relationship with his mother, for whom he acted as an unofficial secretary.
