- No other college sporting event draws so much attention or inspires such public sports insanity as the three weeks of "March Madness" when the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball tournaments whittles 64 of college basketball's best teams into one national champion. Although it fetches high-profile spectators and millions of television viewers, it is not the only tournament in town for national men's and women's basketball. From 1937 to 1998 eight national athletic associations have organized 493 national championship tournaments for men's and women's basketball, of which the NCAA tournament is only one. College Basketball's National Championships details every senior college national athletic association championship basketball tournament ever played, and even includes many of the non-association quasi-national tournaments. They are listed by association, by men and women, by year, and by division, and all the participating teams are listed in order of their final standing within the tournament by year. The entries for each team include their complete season win-loss record, the coach's name, and tournament data such as the team's seed, region, or type of bid. Also included are lists of winners of every national champion for every year that tournament was played, and summaries of key schools relationships to national tournaments.
