Symphony no. 2 was recorded in St. David's Hall, Cardiff, Wales, in July 1987, with the organ and carillon parts recorded at Yale University. The Adagietto was recorded at Watford Town Hall, Watford, England, on June 3, 1991. The piano rolls were recorded in the Welte-Mignon studios in Leipzig, Nov. 9, 1905; recordings for this issue made in the Festeburg-Kirche, Frankfurt, June 21-22, 1992. The oral history recordings were made by William Malloch in the early 1960's.

Enhanced compact disc. A portion of the 2nd disc is an interactive CD-ROM titled "The Mahler album, a pictorial survey of over 150 photographs, paintings and drawings of Mahler.

The booklet includes "A guide to the recording" by Gilbert Kaplan with German texts of the 1st work and English translations, notes on the performers, and English translations of excerpts from Mahler's letters. The score is a reproduction of the 1st ed. (Leipzig : F. Hofmeister, c1897).
