- Summary:
- This volume forms a collection of essays about recent developments in teaching and learning in European systems of higher education. The 1970s and 1980s can perhaps be seen as periods of major structural reforms and differentiation, dominated by increased responsiveness to industrial demands and the emergence of new, non-university forms of further education provision. More recently, the emphasis has shifted towards a closer investigation of the internal organization of higher education institutions, and a growing trend towards government interference which is apparent in all European nations. The contributors argue that the change taking place is usually incremental, reflecting the interplay between internal and external factors, and examine the vulnerability of and pressures upon these institutions.
