In the 1980s Ronald Harwood's 'The Dresser' was a critical and popular success in the West End, on Broadway and in the cinema. This second volume of his work contains some of his earlier plays: 'The Guests' (1972), 'After The Lions'(1983), 'The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold '(1983) and 'Tramway Road' (1984), as well as 'Poison Pen' ( Manchester Royal Exchange, 1993 ). Also included is 'Taking Sides', which premiered in 1995 and was directed by Harold Pinter. Set in Germany at the end of the Second World War, the play centres on the story of the composer Wilhelm Furtwangler, who was accused of having served the Nazi regime.
